I went to Zack Hubert's Greek site (www.zhubert.com) and did a word study on "porneia," which is the greek word used here for "unchastity." I am going to try to paste the results here and will bring it to Winebrenner next Tuesday for those who might be interested.
I also created a vocabulary list for John's prologue from the same site and will bring that as well.

The NT references check with The Greek-English Concordance to the NT by Kohlenberger III, John R. et al by Zondervan. Porneia is utilized 25 times meaning (in the NIV) sexual immorality (13), adulteries (5), immorality (2), marital unfaithfulness (2), illegitimate children (1), and sexual sin (1). I note that in Matthew it is NIV translated as marital unfaithfulness (5:32,19:9) and sexual immorality (15:19). I wish the book was based on the NASB as your source has paralleled with the Greek.

I found it interesting that the term early in the verse pornia often rendered as fornication is different from later in the verse moichatai rendered as adultery. pornia seems to indicate a more general sexual immorality beyond adultery. In other words, divorce is acceptable in cases of a number of sexually immoral acts, not limited to adultery.

i think Jesus would say divorce is "permitted," but not so much "acceptable." Its not the unpardonable sin, but in the Matt. 5 passage he is arguing in favor of Marriage, i think.

I wasn't trying to argue for acceptability. Poor word choice. The point I was trying to make is that I think a lot of people would take the English rendering of pornia to mean adultery, when in reality it covers a far greater range of behavior.
